Africa Travels - Day 23

I suspect few people will be interested in my last day in the bush considering it consisted of nothing but travel back into civilization. I did, however, want to update the flight counts. We first flew from Xigera to Maun after a two hour mokoro ride to the airstrip, and transfered there to Johannesburg.

Flight count: 15
Time spent on a plane or in an airport: 54 hours

In Johannesburg, we stayed at the same hotel as we did between Namibia and Botswana. It isn’t an amazing hotel, but it is amazing how much a guy appreciates a shower after tenting it in the bush for a few days. There was muddy water coming off my legs when I first stepped in, and I pulled half a bird’s nest full of crap out of my hair.

Internet at the hotel was also a wonderful dose of reality. It came at the price of about $5.50 / hour and by the end, I spent over $50 on it.

The only other task in Johannesburg for me was beginning to acclimate back to the EST time zone. We were 6 hours ahead, so going to bed at my normal 10pm schedule would put me in bed at 4pm EST, not a very reasonable plan. I stayed up until 2am before finally crashing.

Digg!
